My last post regarding our electricity consumption shows that taking a bit more care has made a difference. We are less than 50% of our last reading. We have 9 days to go but we are well below 50% and should easily reduce our electricity bill significantly.
I would think that a few factors have combined [...]

Yahoo does the right thing but only under duress
November 14th, 2007 · 1 Comment
I have been following the story about Yahoo’s tragic failure to do the right thing that resulted in the imprisonment of two Chinese who posted material that was considered undesirable by the Chinese government. This has led to a significant hardship for their families because the main source of their income was removed.
For a long [...]

Finding Flow – revisited
November 13th, 2007 · 1 Comment
Written almost 20 years ago I still find “Flow” one of the most inspirational books on the subject of happiness that I have ever read.
I was interested in Mihaly’s latest introduction to the latest impression of the book:
“For as esoteric technologies proliferate and increasing powers of creation and destruction fall into the hands of the [...]

I’d be happy to start with 50%
October 11th, 2007 · 3 Comments
I just received my electricity bill. Over $500!!
I rang the electricity people and they said that our consumption was close to normal. Our house is totally electric and we have a plethora of electrical appliances. Plus there had been an 11% rise in the supply of electricity.
This is a great motivation for me to seriously [...]

IT – and my fair share
September 27th, 2007 · No Comments
I was reading in another blog post about the idea of outsourcing. I know that it is happening more and more with the big companies. To the detriment of personal customer service. But, this article was about a freelancer outsourcing some of their more mundane tasks to a worker in India or Bangladesh.
My first thought [...]
